A Grain of Sand at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry March 2026
PREVIEW

A Grain of Sand

Writer and Director Elias Matar

Coming soon to the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry is A Grain of Sand; a monodrama about war through a child's eyes. Sarah Agha plays the role of eleven year old, Renad, from Gaza.

This play blends the real-life testimonies of children with the mythical story of Anqaa: a symbolic, phoenix-like creature from Arab folklore. Told by Renad as she goes in search of family (and of Anqaa); equipped only with the echoes of her grandmother’s stories and her own vivid imagination.

A Grain of Sand is a Palestinian story:

' [...]one of resilience, hope and the right of children to be children' Good Chance (2026)

Adapted for stage by Elias Matar from A Million Kites: Testimonies and Poems from the Children of Gaza by Leila Boukarim and Asaf Luzon and commissioned by London Palestine Film Festival. Supported by Liverpool Arab Arts Festival.
